Neetu Singh is a writer, director and dramaturg from Hackney, East London.

Her artistic practice is grounded in collaboration and care. As a director, she is interested in exploring human dynamics, friendship, family and community across new writing, classics and revivals. In her writing, she explores these themes through drama and comedy.

She is an alumnus of the Hackney Empire’s Artist Development Programme, the Mercury Theatre’s Directors Development Programme, the New Diorama’s The Knot and the Young Vic’s Fresh Direction Programme. While an undergraduate at the University of Oxford, she founded Haldi, a student production company championing South Asian women, which in 2022, became Tamasha Theatre’s youngest Associate Company.

Recently, she directed The Valley of Queens (Midlands Arts Centre), The End (Bush Theatre) and assistant directed King Troll (New Diorama). She was a finalist on the Squint Playwriting Award, a 6 month writing programme in partnership with Hackney Empire and Stratford East, that culminated in showcasing her debut play The Punjabi Alien Play (Theatre Royal Stratford East) and receiving her first writing commission for the short film, More Than One Story (Cardboard Citizens).

She is currently assistant directing Scenes From Lost Mothers (Clean Break) while working under NOVA, a playwriting seed commission with Tara Theatre.

Next, she returns as assistant director on the The Cherry Orchard (Donmar Warehouse) for its transfer to St Ann’s Warehouse, New York.
